Why private videos are different
Private Facebook videos are different from public videos because Facebook only shows them to selected people, groups, or pages. A normal URL downloader cannot access them because the video source depends on a logged-in Facebook session.
DownJet.cc currently supports public Facebook URLs only. Do not paste private page source, passwords, cookies, session tokens, or account data into any downloader.
Before you save a private video
Make sure you have permission from the video owner or group admin before downloading. Private content can include personal, copyrighted, or restricted material, so it should not be reposted or shared without consent.
Facebook's Privacy Architecture and Access Control
Facebook's platform runs on a strict access control list (ACL) model. When a video is posted privately (e.g. set to "Friends Only" or shared in a closed group), Facebook's CDN restricts access to that video stream. The video URL is not public; instead, access is authorized by an active session token stored in your browser's cookie jar. When you open a private video on Facebook, your browser presents these credentials, allowing you to stream the video.
Because DownJet is a web utility that does not run within your personal Facebook session, our server cannot access private feeds. We choose not to bypass these safety restrictions as it would require compromising your account security.
Security Risks of Private Video Downloaders (Why DownJet is Safe)
Many online tools and browser extensions claim to download private Facebook videos by asking you to copy and paste your browser's HTML page source, upload session cookie headers, or install browser add-ons. We strongly caution against these practices due to severe security implications:
- Session Hijacking: Sharing your raw page source or cookie values exposes active session keys. Malicious sites can use these keys to log into your account, access private messages, modify profile details, or steal personal data.
- Malicious Browser Extensions: Third-party extensions can read and write data across all websites you visit, creating opportunities for credential theft, keylogging, and tracking your active banking or email sessions.
- DownJet's Philosophy: DownJet is built with user privacy and security as core values. We do not require account registration, passwords, or cookies. For public videos, we fetch the stream directly and cleanly. For private content, we recommend official saving options or requesting the file directly from the content creator.
